Gender and Academic Freedom
The Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA) is deeply committed to reflection, monitoring, and action in response to violations of academic freedom that disproportionately affect women and LGBTQIAPN+ population in universities and teaching and research institutions throughout the Americas. To carry out actions in this priority area, CAFA established the Gender Working Group, which began its work on April 8, 2025.
The Working Group has a twofold commitment: to defend the right to teach, research, and debate gender, sexuality, and human rights; and to protect those who, because of their identity or status, are particularly vulnerable to violations in the exercise of their academic activity.
This space is especially dedicated to the work carried out by CAFA, through its Working Group, on the issue of gender and academic freedom. Here you can follow our work in the areas of research, publications, advocacy, solidarity, training, events, and other initiatives.
